Better Breather’s Club-A Support Group for those with Chronic Lung Disease

Learn how to live better with COPD, asthma and other lung diseases.

Sponsored by the American Lung Association, Better Breathers Club meetings provide education and support to those with chronic lung disease such as emphysema or chronic bronchitis. Meetings are FREE and open to anyone interested in learning more about chronic lung disease or breathing disorders. Caregivers and family members are also welcome.

Jim Braley, RRT is a respiratory therapist with more than 40 years experience in various clinical settings. He is currently the Novato Community Hospital manager of respiratory care services and has been a certified American Lung Association Better Breather Group facilitator for six years.

Course Description: This specialized eight-hour AHA HeartSaver Course is for the child care professional and helps those who are responsible for children's health manage illnesses and injuries until first responders arrive, including asthma. Meets Community Care Licensing requirements for daycare homes and centers.

Course Audience: Child care professionals, after-school care providers, elementary school teachers, nannies and parents.

Course Description: This course goes a step beyond basic CPR. In this four-hour class, students will learn information and skills to provide effective emergency care to an injured or ill person before first responders arrive. The workplace is the focus, using industrial and office settings for the scenario-based learning environment. CPR, plus other lifesaving skills including bleeding control, choke saving, hazardous conditions awareness, and an introduction to the AED. Each students receives a manual, instruction, mannequin use and Medic First Aid card valid for two years.

Course Audience:   The class-of-choice for non-medical people, this class is the perfect course for any individual who would like to be prepared to respond to a cardiac emergency, anytime and anywhere. Great for on-site training for employees who have a duty to respond to a cardiac emergency due to job responsibilities or regulatory requirements.

The 39th Annual Petaluma’s Butter & Egg Days Parade celebrates all things Petaluma, the people, history and the stories we love to tell. The 2020 theme “Community – The Heart of Petaluma!” recognizes the importance of our outstanding, engaged nonprofits, businesses, and volunteers with huge giving hearts that fuel our community spirit. It’s what makes Petaluma such a special place to live. The parade features live animals, marching bands, floats and more. It’s time again for our annual bocce tournament in support of youth mentoring! Bocce Ball-A-Palooza is a delightful afternoon party held in the garden of Rob & Karen Turner’s beautiful Heritage Home in downtown Petaluma. Along with the friendly competition of bocce, you will enjoy a delicious Italian lunch complete with beer, wine, soft drinks, coffee, dessert and a live-ly auction. All participants play at least three games of bocce, with the chance of making it to the championship round where fabulous prizes are awarded! Witty team names and uniforms/costumes are highly encouraged and add to the fun! Experience is not necessary, we’ll teach you how to play. DESCRIPTION: Learn heart-healthy cooking tips from our Culinary Director, Jacquelyn Buchanan (Chef JJ). Chef JJ is a certified nutritionist and previously was the Julia Child Director of Culinary Programs at COPIA in Napa. Our first Cooking Class with Chef JJ on March 1st was a huge success. Attendees learned inventive and delicious ways to cook vegetables, ate salads, and took home their own jar of salad dressing. In the next two classes, Chef JJ will teach guide participants through heart-healthy soup recipes and Blue Zone cooking. Our remaining dates are March 29th and April 26th.
