Aug 19 - Sep 25    Tidal Response: Coastal Marine Environments from Above and Below
Tidal Response explores the intersection of art and science through a series of responses to coastal environments, with particular emphasis on Sonoma County. Collectively, seven artists, Peter Connors, Chris Dewees, Courtney Mattison, Julia Edith Rigby, Judith & Richard Selby-Lang, and Holly Sumner – some trained in fine arts, some in biology– enter into a dialogue with nature, and with each other, breaking down disciplinary silos and allowing for a more holistic and perhaps richer exploration of a complex ecosystem. From the sleazy tavern to the regal court, Henry IV, Part 1 runs the gamut from troubled family life to epic stories of bravery: fathers and sons, kings and princes, honor and revenge... culminating in a battle royale. Relax by the Petaluma river and enjoy a Shakespeare classic! This is an outdoor event. Evenings can be chilly and afternoons can be warm. Bring your low back chair. Sep 7    'First Thursday' - Labor Law Seminar Series

WHEN LIGHTNING STRIKES: GUARDING AGAINST SURPRISE ENFORCEMENT INSPECTIONS

Small to medium-sized businesses are being targeted by state enforcement agencies for the purpose of revealing labor law violations. The State Labor Commissioner, Cal OSHA and the Unemployment Development Department (“EDD”) have combined forces, as the Bureau of Field Enforcement, (“BOFE”) to conduct early morning, warrantless, inspections – without warning. Unwary employers can be left with citations involving hundreds of thousands of dollars, after a superficial inspection lasting only two or three hours.

Employers can protect themselves by insisting on a written inspection warrant, and by never granting consent. If a warrant is produced, the employer should demand an opportunity to have the warrant reviewed by a court for legal sufficiency. Legal counsel should be contacted without delay.

This ongoing seminar series is being conducted by veteran Petaluma labor & employment attorney, Jay Putnam. Putnam, has advised employers exclusively, in labor matters for over 36 years. He hopes to provide local business owners and managers with a solid, working understanding of California labor law, as a means of helping them avoid the often crippling cost and disruption caused by lawsuits resulting from a misunderstanding of applicable legal requirements.

Members are encouraged to bring their questions.  Putnam says he intends to conduct the seminars as "informal, working sessions, where people can bring their lunch and their questions and leave each month with important information that will immediately improve their business operations.
