SUMMARY:'First Thursday' - Labor Law Seminar Series
DESCRIPTION:"Drugs and Alcohol in the Workplace"\n\n \nSuccessful prevention of drug/alcohol use depends on employers 1) having a strong legally-enforceable written policy in place and 2) enforcing the policy with legally-permissible procedures.\n\n\n\nCan employers fire employees suspected of drug/alcohol use who refuse to submit to a drug test? Do employers need a signed consent form before they can review the results of a test? How can employers get an employee's consent when the employee knows test results will legally incriminate him/her?\n\n\n\nThese are just some of the questions that confront employers who attempt to maintain a drug/alcohol free workplace. \n\n\n\nThis ongoing seminar series is being conducted by veteran Petaluma labor & employment attorney\, Jay Putnam. Putnam\, has advised employers exclusively\, in labor matters for almost 35 years. He hopes to provide local business owners and managers with a solid\, working understanding of California labor law\, as a means of helping them avoid the often crippling cost and disruption caused by lawsuits resulting from a misunderstanding of applicable legal requirements.\n\n\n\nMembers are encouraged to bring their questions. Putnam says he intends to conduct the seminars as "informal\, working sessions\, where people can bring their lunch and their questions and leave each month with important information that will immediately improve their business operations."\n\n\n\n\n\n To register\, please email the Chamber at pacc@petalumachamber.com\, or call 707.762.2785
