Sonoma County's "wine country" gain becomes "jazz country" when the 16th annual Healdsburg Jazz Festival takes rolls into town, from May 30-June 8, 2014 at various indoor and outdoor venues around Healdsburg. To date, the 2014 festival lineup includes a twoday Celebration of the Blues, featuring local blues legend Charlie Musselwhite and his selected featured artists from blues, jazz and Latin jazz traditions. On the first weekend, the twoday tribute May 31June 1 will explore the roots and branches of the blues, with Charlie Musselwhite Blues Band, fellow bluesmen Guy Davis and Elvin Bishop, Latin Jazz artist John Santos y Sus Soneros, and the Joshua Redman Quartet. The second weekend will include the Marcus Shelby Orchestra, featuring Faye Carol, with the HJF Freedom Jazz in an oratorio celebrating Harriet Tubman on Thursday, June 5. Friday night's concert at the Raven will bring Bill Charlap and Renee Rosnes together for a Grand Piano Duo, with special guest Bobby Hutcherson. Saturday night, the great Ron Carter Quartet will take over the Raven stage, with the Healdsburg High School Jazz Band opening the show. The traditional Festival Finale on Sunday, June 8, features a Latin jazz extravaganza, with Poncho Sanchez and his Latin Jazz Band, following an opening set by the Claudia Villella Trio. Once again the finale will be held at the Rodney Strong Vineyards, just outside of Healdsburg.
