Digital Mixed Media “Bay Area Artists Take Digital Photography to a New Level” explores the work of Bay Area artists who alter photographs and combine images with mediums from metal sculpture to tapestry. The exhibit runs June 29 through September 9, 2012, at Petaluma Arts Center, 230 Lakeville Street, Petaluma.
Invited artists include Chuck Close, Hung Liu, Guy Diehl, David Best, Enrique Chagoya, Squeak Carnwath, Mildred Howard, Don and Era Farnsworth, Pamela Holmes, Joe McDonald, Bill Kane, Cathy Richardson and additional works selected by juror Joe Doyle.
Curator of the invitational portion of the exhibition, Joseph McDonald, was a dealer/expert in fine prints before becoming the staff photographer for the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. McDonald is a partner in Digital Grange in Petaluma, one of the Bay Area’s venues for digital imagery. Working closely with McDonald are exhibition designer Kathleen Hanna and artist/juror Joe Doyle, who selected works for the juried portion of the exhibition.
The Petaluma Arts Center is a non-profit organization, supported by the generosity of its membership, sponsors and grants. The 4,500 square foot facility boasts the large, well-lit G. K. Hart exhibition gallery, smaller Community Gallery, and classrooms. Exhibitions include related workshops and demonstrations by exhibiting artists, docent tours and an after school program for children.
