Semper Dowland
Barefoot Chamber Concerts ("an enterprise noted for both its quality and informality" - San Francisco Classical Voice) presents really good music in the right acoustic and without the formality of most classical music events. Kids are very welcome if quiet, and admission is free if you're under 18. Snacks are available before, during, and after the concert.
If you haven't heard Jarring Sounds, (Danielle Reutter-Harrah, soprano, and Adam Cockerham, lute) run, don't walk, they have redefined the lute song (and many other song genres) in the Bay Area. They will collaborate with a quartet of local viol eminences - Marie Szuts, Julie Jeffrey, Tobi Szuts, and Peter Hallifax, to perform the 3 sad songs with lute and treble obligato that John Dowland published in his 1612 collection "A Pilgrimes Solace" and other music for viol consort and voice by Dowland, including the landmark lamentation "Semper Dowland semper dolens", and some of the rarely performed lamentations for Sir Henry Noel.
There will be snacks.
